Channel letters are increasing in popularity. Baldwin Sign Company manufactures custom channel letters for its customers. Logos and letters are fabricated from metal, usually steel or aluminum and illuminated with neon or LED. Neon is the most common type of illumination for channel letters but LED is growing in popularity due to its durability and low energy use. As LED becomes more common, it will be available in a wider variety of colors. Standard (Pan) Channel Letters are available with acrylic or polycarbonate faces. Channel letters can be individually mounted to the building faced or can be mounted to a raceway that contains the transformers and wiring.

Channel letters are also available Open-Faced, meaning without faces. The neon in these letters is exposed. Reverse Pan Channel Letters, also known as Halo-illuminated Channel Letters are basically open-faced channel letters turned over and backlit with neon or LED.
